Mad Cow Disease …is thought to be caused by a messed up protein, called a Prion. These hard-to-kill little critters (much smaller than bacteria or viruses) attack the brain and spinal cord tissues in cattle and sheep, and can infect entire herds if the nervous tissue is consumed in cattle feed, for example. The infection may not reveal itself for decades, making it difficult to isolate the cause; there is no cure, and – gulp - no chance of recovery. (Each doll has its own unique pattern)
